The last week of class and my presentation

I was really nervous about my presentation, I planned way much more than I could fit in 30 minutes.  I thought I had from 8:45- 9:20.  However, it end up i have only until 9:15, I was disappointed that I did not get to show the powerpoint for my presentation.  I was only able to fit riddles, video and kahoot games.   Maybe cut down the riddles that would give me enough time for presentation.

I still have bit of time to fix my moodle  and back it up so I can use it in the future.

This week we had 4 presentation
caitlin-classdojo-classroom behavior management.
I was not able to login using the code she created for me.  But I used classdojo before, so I knew how to use the system.  It is online points tracking systems where students can hear and track their points for certain behaviors and or taking attendance as well.

Micheal- photography
I was not too keen on the ideas of learning photography because I uses more camera on my phone where exposure and lights are set up automatically.  But after the lesson, I understand why it is useful and why people like to these expensive heavy set camera to create pictures and captures movements.  

Caitlin-fakebook
Creating Fakebook is similar to creating Facebook profiles.  Students are already familiar with Facebook, they watch others status and or they gets news and other informations pass through this huge social media.  Fakebook just eliminate commercials and creating a same kind of space for students.

Jamies-gonoodles websites- for brain breaks.
Gonoodles provides organized videos for teachers or students to watch based on interests, students can watch a video and taking a quick break from learning.  I use gonoodle as reward systems, students used their PRT time to pick a few short videos on Fridays to relax and release some of stress they had over the week.  I thought gonoodles was a good idea.

I thought kerrie's presentation was very informative, she has given out a lot of helpful information.

Krystal -turtlediary
I thought the website is very useful and I can certainly have my daughter use it.  I don't think the students that I teach will be able to use this website because they are little too old for this type of games.

Kim-Chrome extension
This is probably the most useful presentation that I seen all night because I was able to play with the extension and seen how it is done. I really like the ad blocker extension because I can use to it for blocking annoying ads on youtube.

Week 12 blog
This week I heard almost three presentation.
I was not feeling well today, so the plan of doing homework before class did not go so well.  I ended up getting out of bed at 7:10 PM and turning on my computer.

Julio- Newslela
I missed the beginning 5 minutes of Julio's presentation.  But overall was a very clear presentation, he  showed a few tools after he introduce Newsela.

Catherine- Live Binder
It is very cool idea to have organized binder online that you are able to share with others.  However, I find live binder very difficult to navigate.  Maybe I did not spend enough time on it yet.  When I saw Joe's example on how he turn a turn a PDF copy of a menu online and he was able to search and find thing.  I was really impress by it.  Maybe I could use it to store books.


Joey-Edu blog
This is a tool that I am very familiar with.  I used Edu-blog last year, so I knew how to use some of navigation on it.  I thought interface was user friendly, but there is storage limit for posting different type of media for the free version.

I should be able to do more next week when I feel better.

Week 11
We watched everyone's presentation today. There were a few things that I need to pay attention to:
1. Homework need to be uploaded one week before presentation.  Homework for me to do is register Newsela and read a short article.
2. Scratch may be a good animation tool to use.
3. Put different weeks on the bottom of the page.
4. live cam can be used for fun process such as chicken hatching process.
5. Geocache to create scavenger hunts to bring outside of the class.
6. Use smart notebook file.  I already had a good one for Geography of China that I can use for this project. Be sure to upload one.
7. Jeopardy game will be a good review game.
8. End of course survey need to be put into the Moodle.
9. To loose vocroo branding, use vocroo to record then download as mp3, then embed mp3 file.
10.  To embed google slides.  Use Url add link then click on appearance-open, so that google slides should be embed it.


Alright, since I have a little bit of more time before Moodle project is due.  So I can add a these ideas in.

Week 8  Moodle in the Making.

We are about done with making Moodle website.  But I think I may still need a week on it.  Just to be sure that I cover everything.  More ideas for Moodle posted by Dr. Sponder online already.  He mention that there are website that can host Moodle for free. I think I am going to try to backup my Moodle file and post it on else where.  So the Moodle that I created will be available online as well.

Week 7.
The Moodle project is getting close to end.  We have about two weeks the latest to finish up what we have to do for our Moodle project.  I am not sure if I can finish it all on time because I feel there are so many things that I want to included in Moodle.  I always felt Moodle should be a storage of what it  used to be stored for in class.  Then I after I read the article Dr. Sponder posted for us to read, I realize online learning is not just simple transferring what's done in the class to online.  It should be more than that.  Online learning should be new planing and new way to get students engaged and interactive with others. That's what I learned this week.  Need to go back to adding more materials to Moodle.

Week 6
Today, we learned about how to create animated GIF.  GIFs images are limited to 256 colors, since GIFs are low in resolution they can be used to created short animated films.  Educators uses short animated GIF to reenforce simple concepts.  I think I can certainly use animated GIF in the classes that I am teaching now.  The good website that I can use to create animated GIF is Make A GIF .  It was quite easy to use and I was able to create one for writing a character.  I created the GIF by taking screenshot from Google Draw program.  I was able to show how to write the character one stroke at a time. I also found out I can embed the GIF to Moodle as well.
I learned there is a better tool to create education videos, the tool is called EDUCANNON.  I thought it was better than TED ED.

Week 5
This week the class met online due to crazy weather.  I think it is a good exercise to meet and use the webex to practice online. I still need to figure out the topic for my presentation.   I am not sure what I should do for my online class.  As Dr. Sponder suggested that I need to look up online teaching strategies.  I think if I get familiar with online teaching strategies I should feel more comfortable to teaching a online class.  As part of homework, we will be working on creating audios for promote our  own moodle sites.  I can't wait to create a podcast channel for my students.  Keep going, I feel like I am falling behind a little.  This 5 days break should help me catch up on things.

Week 4

This week, we met David Oyanadal, he is the supervisor of The CCSU Instructional Design and Technology Resource Center.  He talked shortly about his job and Quality Matters. He mention that what he learned at CCSU, at the educational technology program.  He said the program was useful and the book Making it Happen was useful.  

This week we have to make some audios for our noodle site.  
The Audio programs that I know of are
1.  Vocaroo
2. QuickTime player
3. audacity
4. podcast
I am very familiar with Vocaroo and QuickTime, I have used these two program for recording.  I think I want to try to use podcast to produce some audios for my Moodle Project.

3rd Week in EDT 532



3rd Week In EDT 532

This week I have learned a few things.  Dr. Sponder showed us a good tool to get link for image, imgur.com.  The website can turn any image with url code.   This will be great to use if I find a image that I do not have a link to.  I also found out that a GIF image has 256 colors, it is easier to use GIF image on the web or something small.    Voice thread is another tool that you can do your presentation in, you can talk or comment over picture slides.  For students do not have voice recorder, they can even phone in their messages, even using land phones.  I thought this is great, now students do not have excuse to say "I do not have voice recorder."  The other very useful tool is thing link, where hotspots can be pin it on to a pictures.

I still have to think about topic for web-ex lesson.  I am thinking maybe I could teach a lesson on Chinese number 1-10.

Topics Is Finally Settled



Well, I went back to course syllabus and read it once more.  I realized that my project is not a unit, it is a whole course for moodle site.  Off course, I did not have enough topic if I just work on one unit.  Luckily it is not too late now.  I wrote a short list for 7th grade Themes and curium list, this should give a good overview for my moodle site.  I finally have a good idea on what I am going to do.  I may have to change some of performance task and some of order of lesson.  But at least I am settle on what to do after two weeks.

2nd Week In Class

Through group discussion, I realized why I did not have enough topics for my moodle site.  It is because I was thinking of making a unit worth of materials to add on Moodle site.  This Moodle project is asking for a bigger topic such as one online course, not just one unit.  After I saw some examples of other people's Moodle project, I was really inspired to change topic for my Moodle site.  I will create a Moodle website for my 1st year Chinese students to use.  I think once this topic is set, I should be able to come up with more ideas to put in and more subsections for this topics.
Dr. Sponder also mention that we should be create more than 80% of stuff on Moodle, I think I a few projects that I use and want to create.  I want to included the Movenote project that I had my students created.  Dr. Sponder also ask us to do a short introduction presentation.  I had a goal of mastering Powtoon, I think I want to polish the introduction that I created using Powtoon and learned how to master Powtoon.

            The possible topic is Chinese pictography
                               
             Topic one, I could talk about what is pictography, how is pictography written, evaluation of pictograph and little bit of history of Chinese pictography. (TED.ED evolutions of pictography)

             Topic two, I could talk about recognizing pictography and introduce a few Chinese pictography and show how these evolved over time.  How these pictographs are being used as radicals  ( sun, moon, field, up, down, left, right, mountain, )

             Topic three, I can show a few new characters and have students identify its resembling picture.
         
             Topic four, follow stroke order to write a few pictography characters. (creating practice worksheet using henxion.com, animations to show stroke orders)

             Topic five, Watch a video and have students identify characters. (36 characters story, youtube, ted lesson)

               Topic six, turn complex character using pictures.  (project, creating rubric using rubric star)
